What is the difference between Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid for acne treatments?

What is the difference between the two, what does each do, and what is each suppossed to be used for? (spot treatment, etc)What is the difference between Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid for acne treatments?
The first two answers were both correct, but I wanted to also add that benzoyl peroxide is much stronger than salicyclic acid. It is tough on sensitive skin, and can bleach clothing. Salicyclic acid is gentler, and is usually used in acne treatments for sensitive skin.

Both ingredients are used for the same thing -- treating and preventing acne. They are in a lot of over the counter acne creams, and can be used to spot treat, or for your entire face, depending on what you buy and what you need it for. What is the difference between Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid for acne treatments?
I'm pretty sure that the Salicylic Acid opens up pores and cleans away dead skin, and the Peroxide kills bacteria that make it get inflamed.
benzoyl peroxide kills p acne bactiera and salicylic acid helps normalize skin shedding to prevent clogged pores.
